Formal letter to Prime Minister Singh
Dear Prime
Minister Singh,
The
rape incident that happened in New Delhi had been spread worldwide. At the same
time, many people are very disappointed with how the police in India handled
this case including myself. I am writing this to tell you how disappointed I am
about the way police in India handled such cases.
Firstly,
I felt that the police in India are not serious at work. Example, the recent
rape case that happened in New Delhi showed us that police in India treated
rape cases as nothing. It was reported on the news that the boyfriend of the
rape victim said that both he and his girlfriend were seriously injured.
However, when the police arrived at the scene, they delayed the time by arguing
over who had the jurisdiction instead of sending the naked and bloodied couple
to the hospital.
Secondly,
I felt that the police in India handled rape cases hastily. It has been
mentioned that in the past, rape victims were asked to marry the rapist instead
of the rapist being punished. It sounded so ridiculous to many people around
the world. We are already in the 21st century and yet the judicial system
of India is moving at a very slow pace. Have you ever thought about how the
rape victims felt if they were to marry off to the rapist who had once hurt
them? Could you imagine if one of them was your daughter?
Thirdly,
I am very disappointed with how the women in India are treated. Women were
banned from using handphones, wear jeans, shorts and even t-shirts. It was said
that to reduce love affair, elopement and rape cases. Does it really help to
decrease the number of rape cases? Even if it does, both love affairs and elopement
involves male, but why are they not banned from using handphones? In fact, by
doing this, it only makes the females in India inferior.
Lastly,
I hope you will look into these problems and make changes to the judicial
system in India and have better treatment towards the women in India. In
addition, I hope you will be able to improve on the way police handle rape
cases.
Yours
sincerely,
Lay

Friendly Letter to Amanat
Dear Amanat,
I’ve heard about your case in Delhi from the news and I felt really sorry for you. I hope you will be happier where you are now. I just want to tell you, your death is never in vain.
Firstly, your death had cast a spotlight on the status of women in India, allowing the whole world to understand how inferior females are as compared to males in India. Although the world had entered a new era, women in India are still not educated and they cannot hold a prestigious job. Instead, they were only given physically difficult and undesirable jobs. Because of your death, many people had protested for justice and women are treated better in terms of security.
Secondly, your case had proved to the whole wide world that the police in India handle rape cases with no sympathy. In an article, your fiancé said that police arrived at the scene and delayed for two hours before you were sent to the hospital. However, your death allowed the India police force to reflect on them and they are now enforcing stricter plans to protect the women in India to prevent such tragedy to happen again. Police also have to go through intensive sensitization programmed which aims at inculcating greater responsibility and appropriate approach towards rape victims.
Lastly, your death also encouraged rape victims to come forward to seek justice. In the past, rape victims were seen as ‘dirty’ and were discriminated. No one cares about how much they suffered and mental trauma caused by rapist. Therefore, victims tend to keep their unfortunate past to themselves to prevent themselves from being looked down by others. However, because of your death, many people around the world had realized how frequent rape occurs in India, and also encouraged rape victims to stand out and seek justice for themselves, at the same time punishing their tormentors.
Your death is not in vain. In fact, you allowed the society to understand how much a rape victim and her family had suffered. At the same time, allow the society to change their views towards rape victims and treat them with respect.
Yours sincerely,
Lay Hoon
